Captioning a 30-second clip shouldn't need a subscription to a full video editor. That is why ReelCaption exists. CapCut now shows free accounts an upgrade prompt on auto captions, and most of the alternatives bundle captions with B-roll, avatars and templates at editor prices.
ReelCaption transcribes the speech, times every word, lets you style the words and exports the result. If you need to cut footage or add music, use your editor for that and bring the finished clip here.
There is no B-roll, no avatars, no templates and no mobile app. Everything the studio can do works on the free plan, and the exports have no watermark. Paying gets you more minutes and longer clips.

About the name
On Instagram, a reel caption is also the text you write under a post.
ReelCaption works on the video itself. It turns what you say into captions on screen, with every word timed. You write the text under the post, and its hashtags, in Instagram as usual.
What ReelCaption is
ReelCaption adds animated, word-by-word captions to a video in the browser. It transcribes the speech with Whisper, lets you fix and style every word, and exports an MP4 with the captions burned in, or .srt and .vtt subtitle files, for TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and YouTube. You can also bring your own .srt or .vtt file and burn it in without transcription. The video stays on your device; only the audio is sent for transcription.

Privacy
The video is decoded, rendered and exported in the browser, on the device it came from. Only the audio track, about 1 MB a minute, goes to Groq, which runs Whisper, and it is not stored.
